Why Cupid should NOT strike this year

Our guest author for today is Utkarsh Arora who describes himself as a good mix of mature and immature, writes quite infrequently (but when he does, he submits the post to Campusghanta) and is a true Arsenal fan. Here he talks about the ridiculousness of Valentine’s Day

So we’re at that time of the year again where the wallets go dry for the men, the frequency of mobile recharges and petrol refills double and the hope that we get laid quadruples.       

The time of the year for girls where the “awwwwww”’s add more w’s to them, the excuses to parents for unaccounted presents/gifts increase and the hope that their love will last  forever because he’s doing so many sweet things quadruples.

Yes my friends, it’s the curse of the Valentine’s Day fever. All you will see for the next 10 days are happy couples ( or so it would seem ).

Ladies, let’s not get carried away by your “Mr. Right’s” romanticism. Learn their ulterior motive and confront them!

Gentlemen, don’t go gaga over her big smile and how happy she is at the presents. What you’re hoping to get is definitely not where all these presents are going to get you. So, don’t be surprised if you end up sleeping on an empty bed on the eve of Valentine’s Day with an emptier pocket ( although your heart will feel very HEAVY at this point ).

Ladies, the compliments you get around this time of the year are as honest and dedicated as India is towards removing corruption, tracking down the perpetrators of scams and bringing justice to the downtrodden. Not to say you’re not pretty (That’s a risk even I am not willing to take!). For all we know, you’re the next Miss. Universe (if you’re from Venezuela you even have a pretty good chance). The point here is that those sweet talks and accolades will come regardless of how you look or what you wear on the V-Day ( the lesser the better for obvious reasons ).



Guys Guys Guys! Don’t Don’t DON’T flatter yourself with the big smiles and the warm hugs. That’s as far as it goes. The girls need the presents, the attention and the compliments so that they don’t feel like they are going to be the next insecure cat lady. This is the one day of the year they count on irrespective of how you treat each other the other 364 days.

In short, Valentines Day – A day where guys spend money and don’t get what they want, a day where girls make future plans based on the guy they see and their hopes are soon dashed as well. The only winners? People like us who watch , laugh and move on to the next day without a care for what transpires this season. The true romantic never needed to succumb to the pressure of a day.
